Based off of the feedback from my literacy narrative, I am going to work on trying to better my writing skills (transitions, introductions, etc.) For my ethnography- I plan to focus on improving my ability to keep the reader, or audience, interested and intrigued throughout the entire paper. I hope to show a different perspective to the false stereotypes that label those who tend to be involved in the tattoo discourse community in my ethnography. I plan to do so by showing the audience my interviews with the tattoo artists and thoroughly explaining the environment in which they work in. Often tattoo artists are stereotyped as rebellious, uneducated, wannabe artists. What people fail to realize is that they work for their job just as hard as anyone else does- they just enjoy it and make money doing what they love, which most people fail to do. They truly believe that what they do is a form of unique and personable art.

I think doing an interview will be the best decision for me. An interview will give me much more information than artifacts- which, I believe, only leave me with assumptions.
I am going to interview my tattoo artist.
My questions are the following:
The best question that a classmate offered me was, "Do you have to know how to draw in order to be a tattoo artist? Or do you simply trace, outline, etc.?"
I am going to interview my tattoo artist.
My questions are the following:
- How long have you been tattooing? Is some form of school necessary for certification? Have you always wanted to do this?
- Do you plan to work here for a long period of time? What brought you here? - did you know an artist working in the shop?
- What are the most common complaints? - by you or customers.
- How did you find your specific style? What are your weakest/highest points as a tattoo artist?
- Has there ever been a time where you did a piece with another artist? How do you decide who will work on what parts of the piece? Was it complicated? Is the client charged separately, or do you split the money equally?

The group I belong to is a very large group. We are all different, but we have similarities. We are dedicated; we are all sore. We all strive to succeed and win.
I belong to a group of collegiate athletes.
Being in shape, wearing UNCC athletic gear (that no one would be able to afford if it weren't given to us) every second of every day, and walking in small packs of very tall people (excluding myself) are ways belonging in this group looks.
You know who belongs by the way we limp to classes and who we hang out with. Most athletes tend to hang out with other athletes and their teammates.
This group uses a lot of "inside jokes" and joking around together. (because we are forced to be around each other so often)
I am a part of this group because I am an athlete at UNCC. I do wear my gear to every class and every school event, and I do limp to every class after workouts.
My group was a discourse community.
We share goals- winning games, getting better, etc.
We have specific ways of communication- talking, writing social media.
We all participate- practice, work together, workouts, team bonding, live together, encouragement.
We have a specific lexis- "pineapples" = stop; thumbs up = we're ready; eye contact = come get this ball out of my hands.
We have a consistent balance of experts and novices- we recruit and bring in different ages of student-athletes every year. This allows our team to have a consistent balance of players, positions, and ages.

blog 4 - 5 ways i can improve my nursing literacy
because who wants to be a crappy nurse?
1. Take extra psychology and foreign languages when available.
Being a nurse is going to be a roller coaster of emotions and different people-
I'll have to be able to be understanding and patient.
Taking these classes will keep me from blowing up my workplace and/or patients.

2. Find local pre-nursing programs and study groups on and off of campus.
I can do this by searching for nursing programs on the university’s website.
I can also look for flyers and brochures in the medical building for information on group studies and tutoring.
By researching the school website, I found that I can improve my skills at the Learning Resource Center.
This will keep me on track for studying and staying up-to-date in classes.

3. Find a field of nursing that best suites my personality and lifestyle.
By researching different fields of nursing, I can find out what the nurse actually does.
I can ask other nurses how their jobs go and if they actually enjoy them.
I can find nursing opinions and options online by searching
“Nurses comments on their jobs,” or going to different blog posts.
I will not want to work in a place or field that I hate-
and get stuck in it for the rest of my life.

4. Continue to further my education after I graduate.
Reading, writing, and researching new nursing techniques and requirements will help keep me up-to-date. I can explore different fields that are expanding in the medical world occasionally.
If I don’t want to read, I can search and watch videos of recent medical discoveries and technologies on youtube.

5. Create relationships with those who hold positions above me.
Having these relationships will benefit me in the long run.
They can lead to future promotions, job opportunities, and guidance.

I responded the most to Kothari's "If you are what you eat."
I found this narrative to be the most intriguing because it was so different from the other two styles of writing that we discussed.
The title made the reading sound interesting and mysterious from the beginning.
I was thinking "where is she going with this?"
The most meaningful part of Kothari's story, to me, was when I realized that she may have been trying to say that just because she eats different food than the other kids at school, does that make her "different"?
I enjoyed the way she started off her narrative with short stories.
This style of writing is more interesting to me because I believe that telling stories and events of our own lives helps us to better understand someone and their message.
I see myself writing in the same style of Kothari; with previous and present events.

After the video, I realized I have a lot more literacies than I knew of.
The literacies that stood out the most to me were. . .
The literacies that stood out the most to me were. . .
- Thanks to my old science teacher, I was able to notice right away that the map on the screen was a topography map. These maps are generally used for architecture and geographical planning. Will I ever need this knowledge in my future? Probably not, but I was able to notice it.
- I had the stop sign literacy right away from driving experiences. I did not see the shape as only the plain red octagon. But I did notice the stop sign because it was a red octagon?
- I also noticed that I have a literacy for reading people. I can be very aware of how people feel through their words, actions, and body language. By seeing the baby crying, I immediately thought about what made the child, rather than just seeing a child crying.

My name is Griffin, but y'all can call me Griff.
I am from Huntington, West Virginia.
I was born on December 21st, the first day of Winter.
I am a freshman at UNCC this year.
I play basketball.
I recently graduated from a small, catholic high school back home; my graduating class consisted of 38 students.
Being from a small school, college has been exciting for me the past few days.
I have seen lots of new faces and met people from all over the world.
I look forward to this class and our future projects. I enjoy being in a class with such diversity as ours. I believe it will allow us to feel more comfortable within the classroom.
At my old high school, I took four years of Honors English and Literature. My teacher was amazing; she really opened our eyes to many different views of the world. She taught us that we are able to find ourselves and understand others through writing. This allowed me to mature and grow into the person I am today. We learned about existentialism, different religions and philosophies, and much more. I never disliked this class because it was so intriguing; we learned something new everyday.
I feel as though throughout this summer session I will be learning more about myself and my classmates; I believe this well have a positive influence on my writing and my outlook on writing.
